It sure sounds great. And it’s something of a buzz-word these days. When you’re looking at investing in a franchise, we’re certain you’ll hear it and read it many times. But what does it actually mean?
This week (7-11 October) is National Work Life week and so, we decided that, instead of telling you what we think its means, we’d ask our franchisees. Unsurprisingly, they came up with some thought-provoking and often emotional answers.
Work-life balance is about blending my personal passions with my professional life. Since getting married and moving into our new home, it’s even more important to me. Whether I’m running the business, watching rugby, Sunday lunch with family or spending time walking in the Welsh mountains with my wife, it’s all about enjoying life in a way that keeps me happy and motivated.
Oli Ford, Cardiff
Work life balance is important to me, as it allows me to be truly present for the milestones that really matter, like celebrating my son and daughter’s graduations as well as enjoying the simple pleasure of family dinners and taking our dog, Dexter, for walks. Being able to prioritise what matters most keeps me motivated and energised in running my business.
Tina Davis, Newtownabbey
We pride ourselves on empowering our franchisees to build and run businesses that work for them – not the other way around. After 30 years in the trade, we know that in order to have happy, successful franchisees who have the skills, knowledge and confidence to excel in business, people need to feel part of something bigger than themselves and to have purpose outside the franchise too!
Work life balance means, being able to blend personal passions, with the business and professional Interests. As much as I love running the business, taking time away from the daily challenges is important, to allow me to reset both mentally and physically.
I am a sport fanatic, and love racing cars, and well as taking adventurous holidays. So being able to have a business that allows me the time, and freedom to take advantage of those passions is invaluable. Having a business to then come back to, that I enjoy, means I never have to dread a Monday morning.
James Cook, Newport
In today’s fast-paced world, achieving a healthy work-life balance is more important than ever. Balancing the demands of work with personal life, especially family time, is essential not only for professional success but also for overall well-being. Making the effort to be present in my child’s life, even amidst a busy work schedule, contributes to their well-being and mine. In the end, these moments are what truly matter and create a lasting impact.
Lee Young, Carlisle
For me, I’ve achieved this balance by having work that is rewarding, and give me the feeling I’ve made a difference to someone. Alongside that, the missing puzzle piece is that I am now able to schedule so my weekends and evenings are free to spend time with my family and friends.
Dave Roberts, Swindon
Work life balance means life – simple as that! You cannot have a meaningful life if your family don’t know you; if you don’t love and if you are not loved. Business success creates opportunities and stability therefore it’s important to live life in a way that both is achieved.
Diane Eales, Barnet and South Herts.
Having control of your life – your time – to allow you the flexibility and freedom to do the things that you enjoy and are important to you. To me, that includes business and pleasure!
Oli Ronan, Newquay and Truro
